Juror's Statement
It was an honor to have been invited to be the juror for the 29th National Exhibition of the Georgia Watercolor Society. My thanks to everyone involved in organizing this fine show.
My criteria for judging the over 400 slides submitted were simple. First and foremost, I feel it is important not to be biased. If a painting "grabbed me" emotionally, it was considered for acceptance. It did not matter whether it was representational or abstract. The fact tHat I had a positive response to the painting was reason enough to consider it.
A painting that reflected a feeling, an idea, or a unique point of view and which was executed with concern for dynamic composition, relationships of shapes, color, rhythm, etc. was included in the exhibition. There are a great variety of approaches and subject matter represented in the exhibition, which contributes to its appealing quality.
My congratulations to everyone in this exhibition. For those artists who didn't make it this year, keep at it. We all have a unique painting inside of us waiting to come out. I always believe that the best is yet to come.
