Marian first painted with watercolors in junior high using the cheapest paper and, can you imagine, the 8 color school watercolor sets!  She continued her art training in high school and then college taking advanced art classes while I pursued a more "practical" degree in Math.

After college Marian began a computer programming career at IBM in Rochester, MN and raised  two daughters with her husband Tom.    She is currently working for Havertys in Atlanta.

Artist Statement:

I am a creative person and especially love watercolors.I continually challenge myself with various subjects to keep life interesting. I love loose, somewhat abstract watercolors with bright, transparent colors but find myself painting more realistically by nature.

Because I began painting mostly outside as a child, I enjoy plein-air painting. It is very difficult to create a terrific painting on-site but I enjoy the challenge and usually have a wonderful time even when the paintings produced are not the best.

As technology advances, it becomes more important for a true artist not to simply reproduce images. For me the challenge is to work with the natural flow of watercolors, to interpret and to enhance the world around me.
