Responsibilities of First Vice President

  • Find credentialed jurors for the National and Member Shows each year. The juror will judge the digital images of the entries that are sent to them, and they will attend the show and judge for the awards. The juror should also be willing to teach a 3 or 5-day workshop in conjunction with each show. The juror will also be expected to attend the show and hand out the awards.
  • Find local juror for Signature Member Show biennially. Honorarium will be offered for services.
  • Find venues for the National and Member Shows each year that will accommodate the number of accepted paintings and venues for the Signature Member Show biennially.
  • Find venues for any workshops being held. The National and Member Show Workshops should ideally be held at the same venue as the exhibition.
  • Issue contracts. (GWS has standard contracts for both venue and juror. Enter into correspondence and negotiation, if necessary, on behalf of GWS.)
  • Ensure contracts are agreed upon with the President and obtain the signatures of the GWS President and the venue contact on the venue contract and the signatures of the GWS President and the juror on the juror contract.
  • Make sure the President has 2 copies of each contract, one for his/her use and one for insertion in the permanent file where all original contractual documentation is kept until archived. Keep one copy for vice president’s file.
  • Serve as and assume the duties of the President in his/her absence.
  • Prepare reports for the board and write requested articles for the newsletter.
  • Attend quarterly board meetings and annual meeting.
  • Serve as a member of the GWS Board.
